Reflections on Social Responsibility of New 'Cultural Interpreters'

Abstract

This article assesses some of the political-cultural contradictions that are characteristic of the new global age: Globalization and diversity, homogenization and multiculturalism, neo-tribal tendencies and cosmopolitanism, universal policies of equal dignity, and specific policies of cultural recognition are some of the antinomies that place society in check. In this sense, and to better decode the emergence of new cultural mazes in the political sphere(s), Z. Bauman's definition of intellectuals as the new "cultural mediators" stands out. Hermeneutics can not only interpret the multiple codes, repertoires and political-cultural imagery that sprout in the public space, but also develop communicative actions between different interest groups.

Este artigo avalia algumas das contradições político-culturais características da nova era global: Globalização e diversidade, homogeneização e multiculturalismo, tendências neo-tribais e cosmopolitismo, políticas universais de igual dignidade e políticas específicas de reconhecimento cultural, são algumas das antinomias que colocam a sociedade hodierna em cheque. Neste sentido, e para melhor descodificar a emergência de novos labirintos culturais na(s) esfera(s) política(s), destaca-se a definição de Z. Bauman dos intelectuais como os novos "mediadores culturais", que através da sua capacidade hermenêutica conseguem não só interpretar os múltiplos códigos, repertórios e imaginários político-culturais que brotam no espaço público, como também desenvolver ações comunicativas entre os diferentes grupos de interesse.
